Chondroitin is either sourced from bovine or shark cartilage. For pets, Bovine Chondroitin is preferred to shark cartilage for the following important reasons:

1. Bovine cartilage has been proven to have a more consistent concentration since feedlot animals have more controlled nutritional intakes.
2. Shark Chondroitin is environmentally unsustainable and inhumane slaughter of sharks has moral implications.

Glucosamine HCL is the ideal form in combination with Chondroitin Sulfate (from Bovine Cartilage). It is important to know the precise amount of glucosamine in each product and not just raw materials. This is directly related to the bioavailability of glucosamine and chondroitin in the pet's body (Gregory et al, 2008).

Studies demonstrate that glucosamine and chondroitin sulphate act synergistically in stimulating proteoglycan aggregate synthesis in chondrocytes (Lippiello et al).
